Frequently Asked Questions
What is Counselling & Psychotherapy?
Counselling takes place when a counsellor sees a client in a private and confidential setting to explore a difficulty the client is having, distress they may be experiencing or perhaps their dissatisfaction with life, or loss or a sense of direction and purpose.
Counsellors and Psychotherapists are professionally trained people who are skilled in listening and reflective skills enabling you to explore issues that are affecting your life. What takes place in the sessions is controlled by what you choose to discuss and explore. I will not tell you what to do or make decisions for you, but will work closely with you to achieve your agreed goals.
I aim to provide a safe, comfortable and confidential counselling and therapy service for Clients. I will encourage you to talk openly about what is troubling you and will listen carefully to what you say. The aim is to help you become clearer about the extent and affect of the issue, so as to recognise possible solutions.
How many sessions will I need?
Each person is different - so each client requires different amounts of sessions to resolve their issues. These sessions may be weekly or fortnightly and may be in individual or couple counselling.
Each individual session is usually one hour in duration.
How confidential is the service?
Confidentiality is maintained within the ethical and practice guidelines of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
How much do sessions cost?
Is Counselling covered by my medical card?
Private Counselling and Psychotherapy is currently not covered by medical cards. If you have a medical card ask your GP for more details.
How do I make an appointment ?
Please call 086 4052211. If your call is not answered, it usually means I am busy seeing clients. Please leave your name and telephone number and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
